The Church Mouse Marlin Invitational Tournament was started 17 years ago  in Avalon .  From 18 boats and 75 anglers in 1991 we have grown to over 100 boats and 500 anglers.  Through the years this tournament has donated in excess of $628,000 to Catalina Island youth groups. 

In 2004 we went to a 100% release tournament,  with our first priority being the preservation of our local Marlin.  In this way we  included more boats and sponsors who previously could not participate in a kill tournament. This made the 14th Annual Church Mouse Invitational the largest release tournament on the West Coast.  All winning boats receive major prizes such as Mexico Hotel Packages, outboard motors, rods, reels, outriggers, coolers,  major marine equipment, and much more. All tax deductible cash donations  go  to Catalina Island Youth Groups.

  The dates for this year's tournament are August 25,26, 2008 As in past years, we plan to keep the entry fee low, $600 per boat, to encourage a wide range of anglers to participate in our tournament,  which is strictly nonprofit.  The object of our tournament is to bring good people together for great fun and fishing, and at the same time help youth groups on Catalina Island. All teams win in the Mouse, we have prizes for all teams ranging from dinners, hotel packages, fishing equipment, coolers, Express tickets, and more. Bob and I receive no compensation for operating the tournament. As always all proceeds of the Church Mouse are passed onto various youth groups on Catalina Island.  Only direct expenses of operating the tournament (shirts, hats, dinner, printing etc..) are withheld.  

Our success is largely due to the generous donations of people like you!  We broadcast the names of our sponsors and their enticing contributions over the VHF radio for two days and display them at the various events leading up to the Gala Banquet.  This both enhances raffle ticket sales and gives you great tax-deductible exposure to your target market!  As the winning raffle tickets are announced in the "World Famous Casino Ballroom" you and your donation are the focus of every draw.  Some of the raffle prizes donated to date for this year include: one night at The Inn on Mt Ada, a VHF radio,  Tohatsu and Honda outboard motors, 3 nights at the Avalon Hotel with Gift Basket, Weekend at Two Harbors including, lodging, transportations and tours, and much more.   Our anglers hail from all over Southern California:  San Diego, San Bernardino, Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.  We are seeking sponsors who target boat owners and fishermen from these areas.
